Overview

The Goldfinch School is a brand new preschool in Seattle, WA! We are looking for experienced and passionate Lead Preschool teachers for Full-time and Part-time positions. We offer highly competitive salaries, paid training, benefits, and a friendly, collaborative, and warm work environment.

This is a full-time (9.5 hours per day) or part-time role (5 hours per day), Monday through Friday, at our campus in the Bryant neighborhood of Seattle. We are looking for a Lead Teacher who is passionate about working with young children, and collaborating with other teachers and staff who are committed to the well-being, social-emotional, and intellectual growth of the next generation!

Responsibilities

  • Leads the preschool program, working closely with the Director and their co-teacher, substitutes, and families to develop and nurture each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills that are necessary for kindergarten readiness

  • Maintains current knowledge of the field and works within the licensing requirement and staffing ratio.

  • Designs the curriculum based upon the school’s pedagogy. Ensures lesson plans cover a spectrum of learning areas including: Language and Early Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Health & Safety, Personal and Social Development, and Physical Development.

  • Provides oversight of daily operation of the classroom, including overall safety, accident and illness prevention, positive interactions and productive educational activity.

  • Plans and implements an age-appropriate program which addresses individual, small and large group needs of preschool children including field-trips.

  • Coordinates and provides semi-annual teacher-parent conferences.

  • Maintains effective relationships and communications with families.

  • Develops and maintains a positive and confidential relationship with parents/caregivers of every child, including thorough communication about the program and each child’s progress.

  • Coordinates and provides outreach to community partners and vendors for services, including screenings with nurse consultants and extracurricular program activities.

  • Follows mandatory reporting requirements for suspicion of child abuse or neglect, and record-keeping of injuries or accidents.

  • Models and ensures professional standards of communications within the classroom, agency, and with community partners/vendors.

  • Conducts coaching and provides oversight of teachers, substitute teachers, interns, and volunteers, in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.

  • Supports teachers with their work schedules’ coordination and scheduling of substitute teachers for work coverage needs.

Record Keeping and Other Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ongoing evaluation, documentation, and observation notes of children to create individualized portfolios and information sharing with parents/caregivers

  • Maintain records for each participant/child following licensing agency requirements

  • Create and distribute monthly program newsletter, calendar, and curriculum

  • Monitor, maintain, and order necessary inventory within the approved budget.

  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, consultations, and professional development workshops

Ability to commute/relocate:

Seattle, WA 98105: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience Requirements

  • 18 years of age 

  • High school Diploma

  • At least 3 years working with children ages 2-5 in any capacity

  • At least 2 years in a traditional Preschool setting

  • Experience developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans for Preschool classrooms

  • Portable Background Check

Training Requirements: 

Willing to complete the following training at least 30 days before employment begins.

  • DEL Orientation

  • Completed Child Care Basics

  • First Aid

  • CPR

  • Bloodborne Pathogens 

  • Food Handlers Certificate

Nice to Have

  • Initial Certificate

  • Short Certificate

  • Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or Higher in Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Education, Home Economics, Music, Art, Library Science, Physical Education & Recreation, Psychology, Family Studies, or other Early Childhood Education/Development related fields

  • Experience teaching arts and language classes


Physical Requirements:

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster

  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccination

  • TDAP vaccination

  • Negative Tuberculosis (TB) test

  • Washington State resident at start date

  • This position requires regular and predictable attendance
