Pre-Kindergarten

Introduction to our

Ages 3.5 - 5

Two, three, or five days full days per week

Our Pre-Kindergarten program is designed particularly to protect, nourish and encourage the innate curiosity of the developing child.

In The Goldfinch School’s warm, joyful Pre-Kindergarten environment, experienced teachers support and guide each child’s imaginative capacities, practical skills, social development, and emerging intellect. Children learn to experiment and discover as they begin to explore more abstract concepts.

Children at this age yearn to understand how the world works. They have so many questions and we provide the tools to discover their own answers.

The Pre-Kindergarten program is designed to give children strong foundations in language arts through circle time and story-telling, and in the life sciences through exposure to the natural world and interactive experimentation. Rhythmic games, songs, and creative movement help children strengthen their relationship with space and their ability to self-regulate. Early math concepts are developed through daily practice with one-to-one correspondence, counting, and categorization skills. Creative play and artistic activity encourage creative problem-solving and the development of integrated life skills.

In this academically-focused program, students learn from and inspire each other, and are given increasing responsibilities tailored to their increasing capacities. Our Pre-Kindergarten program is purposefully academic, providing children with the strong foundations they will need for elementary-age learning.

Children refine their self-care skills and their expanding ability to help each other form a close-knit class community.

Pre-Kindergarteners are also guided to gain their own sense of autonomy and ownership of their ideas, work, and environment.

Through attentive focus, and with a thoughtful approach, teachers ensure that each child feels their worthiness in the classroom. Children deepen their understanding of themselves and build assurance as competent, capable individuals who can step into the wider world with confidence.

Pre-Kindergarteners are ready and excited to work collaboratively.

Many activities in the classroom require sharing leadership, accepting compromise, working together to accomplish something greater, and honoring the contributions of peers. We guide children to develop strong social problem-solving skills they will carry with them into personal and educational settings.

In the classroom, we discuss kindness and care as the basis of all social interactions. They explore friendship while developing their own sense of identity.
